Women’s Month in South Africa is an annual celebration of the remarkable role that women have played in the country’s history. It commemorates the famous 1956 march to the Union Buildings in Pretoria, where over 20,000 women protested against the pass laws that restricted the movements of black South Africans. This courageous act, led by women such as Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Sophia Williams-De Bruyn, and others, marked a significant moment in the country’s struggle for equality and justice
John 12: 3- 7 – NIV
3 Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages. 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
7 “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.
Luke 10:38-42 – NIV
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.
Dear reader, let’s take a closer look at the life of a biblical woman who epitomized boldness, determination, and service to her Lord. Despite facing criticism and opposition, she remained steadfast in her decision to serve to the best of her abilities. Her unwavering devotion and obedience ultimately proved to be a source of great blessing and reward.
She embodied their spirit of perseverance and determination, undeterred by the opinions of those around her. Her dedication to serving her Master with unwavering devotion earned her approval and favor, a testament to the power of faith and conviction in the face of opposition.
The subject of the matter is Mary, who was also found sitting at the feet of Jesus. Mary’s sister, however, believed that Mary’s actions were inappropriate and suggested that she should be serving in a more traditional manner.
This article is written with the aim of celebrating women, particularly during Women’s Month. However, regardless of gender, any person who comes across this article can undoubtedly benefit from its content.
First and foremost, I encourage you, to tap into the courage that lies within you. The example set by Mary, who broke through traditional barriers and established a new standard of service, should inspire you to forge ahead into unexplored realms with confidence and vigor, setting a shining example for generations to come
Also, let me shed light on the significant power of influence that women hold. When wielded with good intentions, influence can be a force for positive change. However, history provides cautionary tales of instances where women have misused this power, resulting in adverse consequences. It is therefore crucial for women to understand and leverage their influence responsibly and ethically to create a better world for all.
Samson and Delilah’s story is a cautionary tale about the dangers of using influence for selfish or destructive purposes. Delilah, through her beauty and allure, managed to seduce Samson and manipulate him into divulging the secret of his strength. Her misuse of her influence ultimately led to Samson’s downfall and death.
Women can discover how to channel their influence effectively and productively by learning from the example of Mary. Despite being unjustly criticized by Judas Iscariot, who was more concerned with fulfilling his own desires, Mary dedicated herself to worshiping and honoring the Lord. Her dedication serves as a shining example of the power of true devotion and faith in the face of adversity.
God is a constant source of support for those who pursue noble deeds. No matter the obstacles or difficulties that may arise, God will provide guidance, strength, and peace to those who walk in righteousness. As Mary’s example demonstrates, a steadfast commitment to what is good and just will never go unrewarded by the Lord
Happy Women’s month………………………….
