Acts 3:1-10 New International Version (NIV)
One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. 2 Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
Peter and John were doing their routine, it was a time of prayer and they were on their way to the temple, little did they know that God had bigger plans for them on that day, you know there are things that we do periodically and they do not mean anything to us, why? We have been doing them for a long time, to us it’s nothing but the way of life. Child of God I do not know your routine, I do not know what is it that you have been doing in the Kingdom of God, maybe you’ve been praying and fasting every week, or you’ve been paying your tithes faithfully for years now, maybe you have been attending those morning prayers in your church season after season, I do not know but guess what God knows every step that you take, He knows all your efforts and in due time He shall promote you.
I sometimes wonder where were other disciples, why was it just Peter and John, but again I get excited for the two disciples who continued living the life (life of prayer) they used to live when Jesus was still with them. Child of God If you had companions on your journey and all of a sudden you are alone or it is just a few of you doing what you used to do as a group or with crowds, please do not give up, the way of God is not a broad way so it is not for everybody, so if you chose it be aware that you will be very lonely and that’s okay, so out of twelve it was just Peter and John.
Matthew 26:36-38 Then Jesus *came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and *said to His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed. 38 Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.”
Same thing happened in the book of Mathew Jesus chose Peter and the two sons of Zebedee to watch with him and again I ask myself why not the rest of the disciples, didn’t they qualify to watch with the Lord? Child of God allow God to separate you from the crowds, allow Him to set you aside for His use, you will never be used by God if you always want to mix with the crowds, I am not saying that you should now hate people, but be careful not to deviate from your path, be careful not to miss what God has in store for you in this season.
Child of God also keep in my mind that prayer has dimensions, some prayers can work well done in a collective setting, with some prayers it just has to be you in a deep conversation with your Maker, so if It happens that you invite a few to pray with you and they sleep, carry on, believe me you have enough grace to do it yourself, whenever you feel the need of doing something, do not look to other people to accomplish it for you, or to do it with you, but just go for it, if it happens that you find help, let it find you along the way.
The crippled beggar knew no other life other than being carried to the temple gate, He never entered the temple, he was only interested in what the people going to the temple could offer Him, all He ever wanted was money, in his mind He thought money was the only thing that He needed, He didn’t know there was something beyond begging for money, I do not know how do you see your life right now, maybe you think “ if I can get a million ”, ”If I can get a job “, “if I can get a husband” , “if I can be acquainted with those people “, “ If I can find a girlfriend “, “or if I can dine with the president my problems will be gone”. May be you have been begging and, yes people were offering all kinds of favour to you, but when you look at your life with all that you’ve been getting, you see that you still in the same position like the lame beggar, His life remained the same until Peter and John came to His life.
It’s so amazing that sometimes we look at our lives thinking we need this and that, only to find that God has something so much better that what we have been wanting, God looks at our lives differently, He may be looking at your life right now and thinking my child needs peace, or maybe an improved mind-set, or maybe wisdom, or just to be grateful.
May the good Lord help you and make your desires to be what He desire for you, the water that He supplies will quench your thirst for the rest of your life, if you need butter God will show you how to do it, because if he gives you butter today then how about tomorrow? so if you know how to do it you will never run out, that is how God deals with us, He will always give you what will transform you completely.
Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Child of God we have come to the end of the year and I do not know what is it that you have been doing throughout the year , I do not know what was your routine, it’s possible that you’ve been doing this one good thing and you are not seeing any results, allow me to tell you that it is for a good reason that you are continually repeating those good deeds, continue to pay those tithes , continue to take care of the poor , continue to pray for others, just continue to serve with humility, and I again I say continue with your good deeds in due season you will be rewarded, the season of rewards came for Peter and John and it will surely come for you as well .
I know you do not have the millions that the world think is in need of but you have something that is bigger and greater, and that is Jesus in you, child of God you have the life of God in you, just share what you have with the world, do not hold it back and do not keep it, just give it to the world, just look around as you do your routine, there are so many beggars that are hoping to get something from you, give them what you have and transform their lives.
